[UK] Bank account access problems at Barclays, Halifax and Lloyds

On July 27, customers of three major British banks took to social media to detail problems accessing their accounts and making transfers, Metro reports.

According to Downdetector data, hundreds of reports of problems with high street banks Halifax, Lloyds and Barclays began around midday.

One individual reportedly described an error message that appeared when they tried to send funds from a Lloyds credit card to a current account, and jammed helplines.

Another customer posted, “Is anyone else having any issues with Lloyds? I can’t get money from the ATM nor make any bank transfers to pay etc.

“My partner is also having the same issues with her Lloyds account. Their helpline has a 40-minute delay – so something is definitely not right.”

The reply from Lloyds customer service read, ‘We’re investigating an issue affecting Faster Payments, which may cause delays. If you’ve already made a payment, please don’t send it again. Check it has gone through first to avoid duplicate payments.”

A user who experienced payment issues with Halifax wrote, “What is going on? I tried to transfer some money and it kept saying error unable to complete, I tried a few times and got the same message, now it’s done multiple transfers?”

A Halifax customer service representative replied to the user to help resolve the issue.

A spokesperson for Lloyds Banking Group told The Sun, “We’re aware some customers are experiencing delays in making faster payments. There’s no need to make the payment again.

“We’re sorry for the inconvenience and are working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible.”

At 6.40pm, a message posted to Barclays UK’s Service Status Help and Support page read, “We're sorry if you’re having issues opening some savings accounts, including ISAs and Bonds, in Online Banking right now. You can still do this in the app as normal.

“We're working to fix this - thanks for bearing with us.”
