In Spain this month, Social Security allocated a record €14.4704 billion to pay the standard monthly contributive pension payroll, a 6.2 per cent increase on the same month in 2024, The Corner reports.
The Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration reported the figures on August 25. This payroll includes the pension revaluation approved by the Government for 2026. The increase ordinarily reaches 2.7 per cent, matching the average CPI between December 2024 and November 2025.
Spain’s average retirement pension reportedly rose by 4.5 per cent, nearly reaching €1,575 per month. The overall average pension across the Social Security system - including all categories of pensions (retirement, permanent disability, widowhood, orphanage, and family benefits) - reached €1,373.44 per month in August, rising 4.6 per cent year-over-year.
This figure almost matches the nation’s most frequent salary, which, according to INE data, stands at €1,376. This is distributed over 12 payments, while retirees receive 14.
