[Portugal] Minimum wage will rise to €970 in 2027

In Portugal, the Government has confirmed that the national minimum wage will rise to €970 in 2027, as outlined in the agreement signed within the Social Concertation framework, The Portugal News reports.

The government sets the national minimum wage, which is currently €920, following consultation with its social partners.

According to the report accompanying the proposed State Budget for 2027, “In 2027, the AD Government will raise the minimum wage (RMMG) to 970 euros, marking the third consecutive increase since the 24th Constitutional Government took office in 2024 - a year when the RMMG stood at 820 euros.”

Trade union confederations have reportedly been advocating for a national minimum wage increase above the target set in the agreement on wage appreciation and economic growth, citing higher-than-expected inflation. The CGTP has argued that the guaranteed minimum wage should rise to €1,100 next year, while the General Workers’ Union (UGT) wants it to exceed €1,000.

Following a September 16 Social Concertation meeting, the Minister of Labour stated that the Government “is always open to reviewing any agreements within Social Concertation.”

It does not currently plan to revise the national minimum wage increase.
