In New Zealand, the Employment Leave Act 2026 has received Royal Assent, changing the rules around holiday and sick leave for the nation’s employees, DLA Piper reports.
The introduction of the Act will bring in a significant overhaul of the country's leave framework.
The Act will reportedly replace the Holidays Act 2003 from August 6, 2028, moving to an hours-based system for accruing, taking and paying annual leave and sick leave.
The aim of the change is to simplify leave calculations and reduce compliance challenges for employers.
