In Malaysia, the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment has urged aspiring migrant workers and recruiting agencies not to make any financial transactions or recruitment arrangements until the government formally announces that the Malaysian labour market has reopened, The Business Standard reports.

An emergency advisory issued by the ministry on July 8 stated that no individual or organisation should be contacted for employment-related processing or payments for jobs in Malaysia until an official notification.

The ministry also told waiting workers not to undergo medical examinations or pay any recruitment-related fees before the worker recruitment process is officially launched.

Recruiting agencies have reportedly been directed not to sign any agreements with workers intending to go to Malaysia until the government issues a formal announcement. And they have been given strict instructions not to collect passports, arrange medical tests or receive any payments from job seekers before the official recruitment process begins.

The ministry urged anyone seeking information or wishing to lodge complaints about Malaysia-bound migration to contact the Probashi Call Centre at 16135 from within Bangladesh or +8809610102030 from abroad.

It has asked stakeholders to speak directly with the ministry's Malaysia focal point, Md Hedayetul Islam Mondol, for official information on recruitment to Malaysia.

In addition, the ministry reportedly urged workers to rely solely on official announcements and to be vigilant about fraudulent recruitment offers or financial scams before the labour market is formally reopened.
