BrightHR - a B2B software provider for workforce management and compliance - has launched a direct Xero Payroll integration intended to reduce manual data entry and improve payroll compliance for Australian SMEs, Tech Business News reports.
According to BrightHR, its direct API connection is designed to eliminate manual data entry, streamline complex wage calculations and protect SME owners from severe legal liabilities associated with Australian wage theft legislation.
Australia’s intricate modern award system reportedly presents a significant operational challenge when maintaining payroll accuracy. The manual re-entry of timesheet data, misinterpretation of penalty rates and management of timecard discrepancies are areas prone to accidental payroll underpayments.
Fair Work Ombudsman regulations, federal legislation criminalising intentional wage theft, and inadvertent administrative errors can prompt statutory penalties, back-pay audits, and reputational damage.
Mollie Eckersley - Associate Director of Operations, ANZ, BrightHR Australia - said, “Processing payroll manually or relying on disjointed spreadsheets is a major vulnerability for small businesses.
“Australian modern awards are extraordinarily complex, with penalty rates, overtime and allowances changing based on specific shift patterns. When managers are forced to manually transfer timesheets into payroll software, human error is almost inevitable.
“Direct integration between BrightHR and Xero removes that human touchpoint entirely, ensuring every calculated hour translates instantly and accurately into correct pay.”
