[Kuwait] PAM provides shelter for expat workers and incentives for young nationals
07 May 2024

In Kuwait, the Deputy Director General of the Labor Protection Sector at the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) announced the authority’s plan to establish a shelter for male expatriate workers, Arab Times reports.

According to Dr Fahd Al-Murad, the shelter is currently being prepared. Kuwait will be the first country in the region to provide such a facility.

The shelter aims to protect the rights of male expatriate workers and address any problems arising between employers and employees. The shelter will also assist workers to facilitate their return to their home countries, Al-Murad said

PAM - through the National Manpower Affairs Sector - is also preparing to implement regulations to boost the employment of Kuwaiti nationals in government contracts, as per Cabinet Resolution No. 1179 of 2023, reporting from Al-Jarida Daily said.

The move reportedly aligns with directives from the political leadership and the Council of Ministers to increase the presence of citizens in the private sector while ensuring their job security and stability

The regulations were created to incentivise young people to seek private-sector employment by enhancing job security in government contracts and creating further opportunities to gain scientific experience and develop technical skills. These contracts are part of efforts to boost the proportion of national workers in non-governmental agencies.
