[Bangladesh] Recruiting agencies to receive CIP status
02 Jan 2024

Bangladesh’s expat secretary has announced that the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment will support recruiting agencies to encourage ethical practices in facilitating remittances and offer recognition through the Commercially Important Person (CIP) status, The Business Post reports.

On December 31, Ahmed Munirus Saleheen - the ministry’s senior secretary - said, “It is crucial to categorise recruiting agencies based on their performance, ensuring that deserving agencies are readily acknowledged and rewarded.”

The secretary spoke at a debate competition and award distribution ceremony at the capital’s Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC), marking International Migrants Day and National Expatriate Day 2023.

Mr Saleheen reportedly stated that effective immigration management, including visa trading restrictions, can ensure secure migration while controlling expenses.

“In this context, both recruiting agencies and other supporting governmental and non-governmental organisations must play responsible roles,” he said.

He did, however, say that a segment of Bangladesh’s educated population is inclined to migrate to Europe unlawfully and state that raising awareness to deter them from taking such risks abroad is imperative.

The minister announced that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs plans to open several embassies in Bangladesh to explore potential labour markets with the active participation of some foreign embassies.
