[Bangladesh] Plan for Italy to recruit skilled workers
23 May 2024

On May 21, Shofiqur Rahman Chowdhury - Bangladesh’s State Minister for Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment - announced that Italy will present a letter to the government requesting skilled manpower after which domestic talent will be sent to Italy, UNB reports.

Following a meeting with Italian Ambassador Antonio Alessandro at the Secretariat, the state minister told reporters that a discussion held between the two countries had established that overseas workers would not be harassed.

Commenting on the creation of skilled manpower, he said, "If the Italian government wants, it can arrange training for our IMT and Technical Training Centers (TTC) as per their needs."

Mr Alessandro said, “Today, we have discussed how to expand the legal immigrants and his government expressed its keenness to provide visas to those who are skilled. The embassy is preparing the process of issuing visas quickly. Due to scrutiny, it takes a long time.

“I believe those who are giving false assurances to the workers who want to go to Italy are actually harming the real applicants. Due to the scrutiny, the visa process of the genuine applicants is being delayed.”

The ambassador reportedly added that Italy sincerely believes Bangladesh is a friend to it as the countries have a historical relationship. That connection is the reason Italy is interested in creating job opportunities for skilled manpower.

Shofiqur Rahman said the cordial relations between the two friendly countries will be further strengthened by the move.

Under the direction of the Prime Minister, Bangladesh is working towards transforming its workforce through proper training to meet the demand for talent.
