On July 27, the GMB trade union announced that more than a thousand workers at two Amazon fulfilment centres in England would take strike action in early August over an ongoing pay dispute, Yahoo reports.

According to the union, workers in Rugeley will walk out on August 3-4 and Amazon staff in Coventry will take action on August 4-5.

In a statement, GMB Senior Organiser Rachel Fagan said, "This industrial action will spread further: it’s clear the fight for workers’ rights at Amazon is only just beginning.”

Retail giant Amazon reportedly said it regularly reviews pay to ensure that it offers competitive wages and benefits.

"In less than a year, our minimum pay has risen by 10 per cent and by more than 37 per cent since 2018," an Amazon spokesperson said.

In June, the union revealed that Amazon workers in Coventry - who had staged a series of walkouts since January - had voted in favour of six further months of industrial action.
