An important update on the UK Government's plans to bring in far-reaching changes to Skilled Worker visas has been announced. Freeths offers further information on the change.

On March 11 it is expected that the Rules to prevent care workers and senior care workers from bringing dependants to the UK will come into force.

Plans to increase the earnings thresholds for those arriving on the Skilled Worker route will reportedly be implemented on April 4, with the minimum threshold increasing to £38,700.

According to Freeths, existing Skilled Worker visa holders, Health and Care Visa routes and those occupations on national payscales will be exempt.

The Shortage Occupation List will be replaced by the Immigration Salary List and on April 4 the 20 per cent going rate discount for shortage occupations will be removed.

From April 11, the minimum salary threshold for family visa applicants will reportedly rise from £18,600 gross per annum to £29,000 gross per annum. The government reportedly intends that it will ultimately rise to £38,700 by early 2025.
