In the UK, Boots and the Pharmacists’ Defence Association (PDA) have agreed on a 4 per cent pay rise for eligible pharmacists working at the nation’s largest multiple under 2024 pay talks effective from November 1, Chemist+Druggist reports.
In their October 3 announcement of the rise, the PDA also stated that qualified pharmacists who have worked at Boots for over ten years will now be paid at least £53,000 per year on a full-time equivalent (FTE) basis. Pharmacist store managers can expect their minimum salaries to start at £55,000 FTE per annum.
The honorarium payment given to pharmacists supporting trainee pharmacists has reportedly been increased by £500 to a £1,500 non-consolidated payment. This will apply after the trainee's "52-week sign-off has been undertaken", the union said.
According to the PDA, the total pay award amounts to a 5 per cent rise in Boots' "investment in payroll" across the union's bargaining unit.
This pay uplift "recognises the unique role of the pharmacists within the community pharmacy sector and the business", it said.
