Remote workers considering taking advantage of Spain’s Digital Nomad Visa (DNV) in 2026 must prove higher earnings with the country’s minimum wage rise now in effect, VisaHQ reports.
Royal Decree 126/2026 increased the national minimum wage (SMI) by 3.1 per cent.
As DNV income requirements are pegged at 200 per cent of the SMI, a single applicant must now reportedly earn at least €2,849 a month, rising from €2,763 in 2025.
For families, there will be further expectations. The first dependent adds 75 per cent of the SMI (€916) and each additional dependent another 25 per cent (€305).
Spain’s remote worker pathway was launched in January 2023 under the Start-up Act. More than 14,000 people have made applications so far, but authorities report a spike in fraudulent or incomplete files. In response, consulates are tightening document checks and demanding consistent monthly income rather than isolated bank balances.
