[Portugal] Minimum wage and social benefit increases 2026

On January 1, 2026, in Portugal, several updates made during December 2025 came into effect, ranging from the national minimum wage to social benefits, PRA reports.

These measures are intended to strengthen the purchasing power of workers and pensioners and combat poverty among the elderly.

According to PRA, the increases are as follows

▪ Social Support Index (IAS): set at €537.13 – with an impact, in particular, on the contributions of domestic workers earning the standard hourly wage – for example:

i. 2025 (IAS = € 522,50):

                    ▪ 522,50×122080≈€ 3,01/h\frac

ii. 2026 (IAS = € 537,13):

                    ▪ 537,13×122080≈€ 3,10/h\frac

▪ Pensions and social benefits: increases between 2.02 per cent and 2.80 per cent, depending on the bracket;

▪ Work accident pensions: 2.80 per cent increase;
