[Italy] Lowest unemployment rate in 15 years

Italy’s unemployment rate decreased to its lowest level in more than 15 years in March, The Statesman reports. 

According to an announcement from the statistical office ISTAT on May 3, the decrease followed a slight rise in February.

The country’s unemployment rate reportedly dropped to 7.2 per cent in March from 7.4 per cent in February. Economists had expected the index to rise to 7.5 per cent. The rate was 7.9 per cent in March 2023.

The rate was the lowest recorded since January 2009 when it also stood at 7.2 per cent.

Meanwhile, the Italian employment rate saw a slight increase; going from 61.9 per cent in the previous month to 62.1 per cent in March.

ISTAT data showed that the youth unemployment rate dropped to 20.1 per cent in March from 22.4 per cent a month prior.
