In Greece, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has highlighted what he described as “impressive” results from the rollout of the country’s digital labour card in May, particularly in the tourism sector, ekathimerini.com reports.
In a post shared on social media, the PM stated that declared overtime hours in tourism had increased by 1,000 per cent compared to previous periods.
“These are legal overtime hours, properly declared and paid, with employer contributions submitted,” he said.
Greece’s digital labour card system was reportedly intended to curb undeclared labour and improve transparency, logging working hours in real time.
The system has been gradually implemented in sectors such as hospitality and retail, where informal labour is most common.
