[Germany] Hamburg’s international artists' scheme enters next round
23 Jun 2023

In Germany, online applications are now being accepted for the Ministry of Culture and Media’s “Intro” scheme in support of expat artists seeking shelter in Hamburg, Hamburg News reports.

Eight intercultural grants of EUR 200,000 are available. Entries must be submitted by the deadline of July 6, 2023, and can be made here

Grant recipients can reportedly work in cultural institutions across Hamburg and complete their own projects in cooperation with other artists.

"Our current global political situation has serious consequences for artists in many countries. Anyone who has to leave their home country because of repression, censorship or war and comes to Hamburg needs a perspective here for their artistic work," Dr Carsten Brosda, - Senator for Culture and Media - said.

The "Intro" scheme addresses this need and connects international artists with Hamburg's cultural scene. "The scheme opens up the art and cultural landscape to international artists and contributes to the diversity of Hamburg as a city of culture," he said.

International artists from all disciplines are eligible to apply for the scheme with a cultural institution or independent group. An expert jury selects the recipients. The teams receive training and consulting in cooperation with "Artist Training" at the Berlin Career College of the University of the Arts.

Artists reportedly have the opportunity to network with representatives of cultural institutions and associations in meetings organised by the Ministry of Culture in Hamburg. Workshops will give the participants information about working as freelance artists in the city and the chosen artists will also have an opportunity to work on their projects in cooperation with the Fluctoplasma Festival and present them in autumn 2024.
