[France] 3.2% increase in September temporary worker numbers after industrial sector growth

In France, the latest Prism'emploi barometer shows that the number of temporary workers increased by 3.2 per cent in September 2022 when compared to the same period in 2021, SIA reports.

The 3.2 per cent increase in September was up from the 1.7 per cent annual increase recorded in August, but 3.2 per cent below the average trend for the first three quarters (+6.4 per cent).

Temporary employment increased in all sectors with the exception of construction (-5.6 per cent over one year). Temporary employment increased in industry (+6.2 per cent), trade (+5.8 per cent), services (+5.7 per cent) and transport (+0.9 per cent).

The Prism’emploi barometer data also reportedly found that temporary worker employment picked up 2.6 per cent in September for skilled workers and +2.6 per cent in September for unskilled workers. The latter - accounting for more than three-quarters of the workforce - was the main source of temporary job creation in September.

Temporary employment also increased among employees (+8.3 per cent) as well as managers and intermediate professions (+1.0 per cent). 

The majority of metropolitan regions reported an increase in temporary employment. Among the metropolitan regions, three recorded growth above 5 per cent. These included Ile-de-France: 8.1 per cent; Bourgogne-Franche-Comté: 7.3 per cent, and Occitanie: 7.2 per cent. By contrast, three regions are reportedly down compared to September 2021: Nouvelle-Aquitaine (-2.0 per cent), Hauts-de-France (-0.7 per cent) and PACA (-0.1 per cent).
