Multinational automobile manufacturer Ford intends to make further job cuts in Germany, Spain and the UK, according to the head of the works council for the US automaker in Germany, Reuters reports.
The head of the works council at Ford's Cologne plant, Benjamin Gruschka told Reuters that it is not yet clear how many additional job cuts are foreseen in Germany under the new restructuring plan, which follows a previous restructuring programme.
Mr Gruschka reportedly added that a decision is expected by the end of June.
Ford Germany did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comment.
Mr Gruschka said that Ford is already halfway towards completing its previous restructuring plan of 2,300 job cuts in Germany, reducing the staff number in the country to 13,000.
In 2023, the US automobile giant reportedly stated that it would cut 3,800 jobs in Europe as it transitions to electric vehicle (EV) production; a process requiring fewer personnel.
Last week Ford announced plans to cut up to 1,600 more jobs at its Valencia, Spain, assembly plant as part of the restructuring plan.
