According to Census data, women make up less than 30 per cent of six-figure earners in the US however in at least one major city that number is closer to half, Bizwomen reports.
In a new study, SmartAsset ranked the 100 largest US cities according to two metrics: the percentage of full-time women workers who are six-figure earners and the percentage of six-figure earners who are women.
Number one on the list, for the third year in a row, is Washington, D.C., where women make up almost 45 per cent of all six-figure earners, compared to a national average of 29 per cent. Tied in second place are San Francisco and D.C. suburb Arlington, Virginia.
Census Bureau data reportedly shows that almost 40 per cent of female workers in San Francisco earn $100,000 or more annually. San Francisco ranks eighth-highest for the percentage of its six-figure earners who are women (38 per cent).
