In Hawaii, the IRS has approved Governor Josh Green’s request for federal tax relief for residents and businesses affected by the Kona Low storms, which began on March 10, The Maui News reports.
Under the new relief, residents and business owners will have until July 8, 2026, to file federal tax returns and make tax payments originally due on or after March 10.
“I am pleased and grateful that our request for a federal disaster declaration could also bring relief to Hawaii taxpayers,” Governor Green said.
The relief reportedly applies to individual income tax returns, certain business tax filings, quarterly payroll filings and certain excise tax payments.
According to the IRS, it will automatically identify and apply relief for taxpayers in the declared disaster area. Those located outside the covered area who have been affected by the disaster can request relief by contacting the IRS.
IRS information and guidance on the tax relief is available here.
The relief for state income tax filing and payment deadlines for eligible storm-impacted residents and businesses will be provided until July 20, 2026. Further information can be found here.
