In Canada, members of a class-action lawsuit against the federal government over the Phoenix pay system can now file compensation claims, CBC Lite reports.
On April 24, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat announced that the Superior Court of Quebec had approved the settlement between the Government of Canada and non-unionised and casual federal employees over payroll issues caused by the error-plagued Phoenix system.
Casual and student employees, plus some part-time employees who worked between February 2016 and March 2020 and experienced problems with their pay, can reportedly file claims until October 24.
Information about eligibility and how to submit a claim is available on the Government of Canada website.
The compensation available for each year covered in the settlement is as follows:
-
Up to $350 for the 2016–17 fiscal year.
-
Up to $175 for the 2017–18 fiscal year.
-
Up to $175 for the 2018–19 fiscal year.
-
Up to $175 for the 2019–20 fiscal year.
The Phoenix pay system was launched in 2016, and its failure to deliver accurate and timely pay became an international scandal. Learn more by listening to GPA’s popular Phoenixed podcast series.
