Curfews, stay-at-home orders and other lockdowns remain in place across Canada, making COVID-19 benefits more essential than ever for many people. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took to Twitter to signpost Canadians to all the support they can access and even explained the eligibility for each one, Narcity reports.
"With cases rising across the country, and lockdowns happening in several places, I want to be clear: we’re going to continue doing whatever it takes, for as long as it takes, to keep you safe and supported," the Prime Minister wrote.
He then posted a series of tweets to break down exactly what help is available, beginning with the Canada Recovery Benefit for those who are self-employed or cannot get EI but are directly affected by this disease; they may claim $500 a week for up to 26 weeks.
Trudeau then turned to the CRSB - the sickness benefit for people unable to work because they are sick or isolating due to COVID-19 - and the Canada Recovery Caregiver Benefit for those missing work to take care of a loved one.
The Prime Minister went on to detail some of the help currently available for businesses, including the Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy to assist with monthly rent, a scheme which has been boosted to provide even more support for businesses in lockdown.
Additionally, the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy helps businesses that have lost revenue to maintain employees on the payroll and the Canada Emergency Business Account can provide interest-free loans of up to $60,000.
