The Ugandan Parliament's Accountability Committee has demanded that its Public Service Ministry account for how 7,341 employees were hired across various government departments without the committee's consent, NTV reports.

The hirings led to unauthorised expenditure of 15 billion shillings in salaries.

In addition, the ministry has reportedly requested police investigations into how 1,166 individuals remained on the government payroll, despite some being dead or having abandoned their positions.

MPs expressed concern that such a level of negligence reflects poorly on the ministry’s oversight and accountability. The issues were brought to light during recent parliamentary committee proceedings.
