[Nigeria] 21-day ultimatum for unpaid Kaduna State minimum wage
08 Sep 2025

The Kaduna State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has issued the State government a 21-day ultimatum for its failure to implement the recently approved ₦72,000 minimum wage, Radio Nigeria reports.

The move was announced after an emergency meeting of the union’s State Executive Council in Kaduna.

The statement had reportedly been jointly signed by the State President, Comrade Rayanu Turunku, and the State Secretary, Comrade Sam Kaiwa.

The ultimatum followed several unsuccessful attempts to resolve the matter amicably, according to NULGE. The union stated that the delay in implementing the new minimum wage has subjected its members to severe hardship, particularly in light of the prevailing economic challenges in the country.

NULGE cautioned that, should the government fail to act within the 21-day window, it would have no option but to begin an indefinite strike across all 23 local government areas in Kaduna State.

The union urged Governor Uba Sani to take swift action to ensure the implementation of the approved wage and prevent an industrial crisis.

NULGE is reportedly calling on the state government to sustain the existing cordial relationship between organised labour and the present administration, emphasising that the welfare of workers must remain a priority.
