[Nigeria] Governor to prioritise workers' salaries after inheriting ₦359bn salary arrears

In Nigeria, Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue has announced that his administration inherited over ₦359 billion in salary arrears from the several years of his predecessor’s term in office, pulse.ng reports.

The governor made the statement during a thank-you tour of Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency and alleged that previous administrations in the state had lied to the people. 

He reportedly claimed that the Federal Government denied them funds to pay salaries.

The governor vowed that his administration would continue to prioritise the payment of workers’ salaries.

“Henceforth, civil servants in the State will be paid from 22 of every month," he said.

He thanked the people for their confidence in him to lead the State and urged them to continue to support his administration and be patient with President Bola Tinubu, stating that the premier has good policies for Nigerians.
