[Namibia] New Employment Services Board inaugurated by labour minister

Hon Utoni Nujoma - the Minister of Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment Creation - inaugurated the Third Employment Services Board last week. The board members will hold their positions for a period of three years, from October 1 until September 30, and are reportedly empowered to monitor and analyse labour market development and advise the Minister on legislation pertaining to the provision of employment services.

The minister urged the Board to facilitate the redeployment of workers who lost jobs as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and to find workable solutions to the subsequent economic problems that have arisen. “The rate of unemployment in the country is alarming and the Labour Force Survey of 2018 stated that the unemployment rate stood at 33.4 per cent of which 265,770 were youth,” Mr Nujoma said.
