[Egypt] Minimum wage rise for public sector employees from July 2025
07 Apr 2025

Egypt’s minimum wage will rise to EGP 7,000 ($138) per month from July as part of its 2025/2026 fiscal budget, Egyptian Streets reports.

Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk announced the wage hike on March 31, confirming that the country’s lowest job grade is set to receive an EGP 1,100 monthly increase in total compensation.

The move reportedly follows a 2023 social support package introduced by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, which raised the minimum wage for government employees to EGP 4,000.

Under the new measures, employees governed by the Civil Service Law will receive a 10 per cent annual raise, and those outside the law will receive a 15 per cent raise. The minimum increase will be EGP 150 per month.

In addition, the cost of living allowance will rise from EGP 600 to EGP 1,000, and an additional incentive of EGP 300 will be granted to all employees across job grades.

The salary adjustments will be implemented from July 2025 under a broader plan to support income growth amid rising living costs. Wage allocations in Egypt’s 2025/2026 fiscal budget will grow 18.1 per cent, reaching EGP 679.1 billion.

The minimum wage increase for public sector employees reportedly comes a month after the National Council of Wages (NCW) announced, in February 2025, that private sector workers would see their base pay rising. From March 1, 2025, the minimum wage for private sector workers rose to EGP 7,000, up from the EGP 6,000 set in April 2024.

The pay hikes form part of ongoing efforts to support living standards across Egypt’s workforce.
