In Uganda, teachers at Kotomor Seed Secondary School in Agago District gave the government a 10-day ultimatum to clear seven months of salary arrears for 25 new staff members, leading to a suspension of classes, Monitor reports.
The teachers recruited for the new seed school on September 25, 2025, say they have not been paid since then. They added that out of 28 staff members, only three are on the government payroll.
One of the teachers reportedly spoke to The Daily Monitor on condition of anonymity. They said they would only return to class after the salary arrears are cleared
District officials have stated that funds have now been secured through the Ministry of Public Service, with payments expected to begin soon.
The teachers are insisting on full clearance of the arrears before resuming duties.
The Principal Human Resource Officer reportedly went to the Ministry of Public Service to confirm their names were activated on the payroll, assuring the affected teachers that they would receive all their approved salaries.
Similar complaints, about delayed payments for new or seed school staff, have been made by teachers in other districts.
