On February 16, Spanish Labour Minister Yolanda Díaz and the general secretaries of the Confederation of Trade Unions Comisiones Obreras (CCOO) and the General Workers' Union (UGT), Unai Sordo and Pepe Alvarez, met to sign the increase in Spain’s interprofessional minimum wage, Agenzia Nova reports.
The Salario Mínimo Interprofesional (SMI) has been hiked by 3.1 per cent from January 1 to December 31 2026, reaching €1,221 per month for fourteen months.
Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez was also reportedly present at the signing ceremony, which was held at the Ministry of Labour. The new SMI amount is €37 per month, or €518 per year, higher than the figure in force in 2025 (€1,184 per month, €16,576 per year).
If there are no last-minute changes after the agreement’s signing, the decree providing for the SMI increase will be approved by the Council of Ministers.
