[Pakistan] Salary deduction to support flood relief efforts announced
25 Aug 2025

In Pakistan, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government officially announced that salary deductions will be made from government, semi-government, and private employees to support relief efforts for people affected by recent flooding across the province, Minute Mirror reports.

An official notification issued by the Finance Department stated that the decision will be implemented from the August 2025 payroll. Officers serving in Grade 17 and above will contribute two days of their basic salary, while employees in Grades 1 to 16 will donate one day’s salary to the provincial flood relief fund.

This move is a response to devastating monsoon floods that struck multiple districts in KP, including Battagram, Bajaur, and Mansehra. Heavy rains and flash floods destroyed infrastructure, displaced thousands of families, and claimed hundreds of lives, creating an urgent need for financial and humanitarian assistance.

During a recent provincial cabinet meeting, the government reportedly emphasised the importance of mobilising resources to help flood survivors. The funds collected through salary deductions will be used for temporary shelter, food, clean drinking water, and essential medical services to the affected families.

In addition, authorities confirmed that rehabilitation measures would focus on rebuilding critical infrastructure and restoring basic facilities in the hardest-hit areas.

The KP government stated that the decision to deduct salaries is a collective effort to stand with the displaced population at this time of crisis. Officials stressed that both public and private employees’ contributions will play a vital role in ensuring timely relief and long-term rehabilitation.
