In Ireland, the National Shared Services Office (NSSO) processed €7.2 billion in payroll and pension payments in 2024, Irish Independent reports.
The NSSO is a shared services provider for government departments and public bodies in Ireland. It manages payroll, pensions, HR administration and financial transactions on their behalf, allowing departments to focus on frontline delivery while administrative functions are handled centrally.
Its annual report for 2024 reportedly showed that the office had delivered payroll and pension payments to over 164,000 customers across 54 public service bodies. It also provided HR services to almost 49,000 workers.
Of the €7.2 billion processed during the year, €5.2 billion related to payroll, while €2 billion was paid in pensions, with more than 76,000 pensioners receiving payments.
According to the report, the NSSO also processed close to 1,900 retirements and issued 20,000 single pension scheme benefit statements. Statutory and voluntary deductions together accounted for over €400m.
Payroll operations reportedly included more than 4,200 processed payrolls in 2024, covering over 87,000 workers.
