[Greece] Average gross salary tops €1,500 for full-time workers

In 2025, Greece’s private sector salaries averaged €1,362.66 gross, up €20 compared to 2024, while the average full-time salary increased to €1,516, from €1,478 a year earlier (up €37), ekathimerini.com reports.

According to annual data from the Ergani system, one in three workers received a salary of less than €1,000 per month gross in 2025, while six in 10 received up to €1,200. 

The significant increase in Greece’s minimum wage in recent years has reportedly led to notable shifts among workers who are paid up to €1,500. 

While 61 per cent of private sector employees received between €801 and €1,500 in both 2024 and 2025, those paid between €800 and €1,000 gross decreased by 46 per cent in 2025, compared to the immediate previous year, and employees with a salary between €1,001 and €1,500 increased by 54 per cent. 

The Ergani system data (derived from the Analytical Periodic Declarations of employers) showed that very small enterprises are the significant majority in Greece, with 88 per cent , or 267,245, employing from one to 10 staff. 

The number of those companies reportedly increased by 2,805 enterprises (+1.06 per cent) in a year. 

In total, enterprises with employees under private law employment contracts amount to 304,568. With their branches in different regions from their headquarters, they reach 355,509. Employees under private law employment contracts totalled 2,460,720, an increase of 70,563 people or 2.95 per cent compared to 2024. 

One insight into the size of enterprises in the Greek economy is that there are only 10 companies with 3,000-4,000 employees (up from nine in 2024), while there are a further companies with over 4,000 employees. The 1.7 per cent of all enterprises with over 50 employees account for 47.24 per cent of total employees.

According to the data, the biggest group (750,113 or 29 per cent) are employed in 937 enterprises, each of which has over 250 employees. This is followed by 681,535 employees (26.30 per cent) who work in 35,910 enterprises with 10-49 employees. The number of workers (395,485 or 15.26 per cent) employed in very small enterprises with up to four employees is also significant.
