The government of Macau has proposed raising the number of days for statutory paid maternity leave in the private sector to 90 days from the current 70 days of permitted leave, The Macau Post Daily reports.
In addition, it proposes increasing the number of days for private-sector employees’ statutory minimum paid annual leave. The current entitlement is six days for all private-sector employees with a minimum of one year of employment, regardless of their length of service.
The government is reportedly seeking to establish a system where the number of days for employees’ statutory paid annual leave will increase with their length of service, but with a maximum of 12 days.
The Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) has launched a 45-day public consultation on proposed amendments to the Labour Relations Law, announced during a press conference at its headquarters in Areia Preta district on January 30.
The Labour Relations Law regulates private sector employment. The public sector has its own employment regulations, which are more generous than those in the private sector.
The public consultation is running until March 16. Three sessions for members of the general public will be held during this period.
