[Canada] New employer obligations in Québec to prevent workplace sexual violence

In Québec, Canada, the government has proposed a regulation to strengthen workplace protections against sexual violence, DLA Piper reports.

Under its provisions, employers would need to provide mandatory training every three years and share clear prevention policies.

The regulation reportedly requires formal complaint procedures and impartial handling of reports to avoid retaliation.

Employers would need to take measures that address risks in the workplace and external contexts, including social events and digital interactions.

According to DLA Piper, this proposal builds on Québec’s 2024 Act and reinforces the Commission des normes, de l’équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (Quebec’s employment standards commission, commonly referred to as the CNESST) mandate to promote safe, respectful workplaces.
