On August 30 Qatar announced changes to its labour laws which increase the minimum wage by 25 per cent to 1,000 riyals ($275) a month and scrap a requirement for workers to receive permission from their employers before changing jobs. The new minimum wage will come into effect in six months. It is 250 riyals more a month than the previous minimum, is non-discriminatory and applies to all workers.
