Since August 2022, people in Scotland can no longer make a new claim for Personal Independence Payment (PIP). It has been replaced by Adult Disability Payment (ADP), a similar but devolved benefit only available to Scots. Now Social Security Scotland has shared details of circumstances under which ADP may be paid at a daily rate, Daily Record reports.
Social Security Scotland delivers the ADP with the same eligibility criteria and payment rates currently being administered by DWP for PIP, for the most part. Meaning new and existing claimants who receive ADP will be paid between £24.45 and £156.90 per week to help with the additional costs of daily living and mobility needs. The benefit is paid every four weeks so this amounts to between £97.80 and £627.60 every payment period.
Guidance on mygov.scot states that ADP may be paid at a daily rate to individuals living for a prolonged period in a care home or a residential educational establishment.
The guidance says, “If the individual has a period of absence from the institution, they may be paid at a daily rate. The daily rate is one-seventh of the weekly rate.
“This applies as long as the individual has already had the benefit of 28 days grace at an earlier point in their stay, and expect to return to stay in the establishment within 28 days of the period of leave.”
This generally applies to individuals who live in a residential care or hospital setting for most of the week and return home at the weekend to spend time with family.
For example, for someone going home on a Friday and returning on Monday. The daily rate should be calculated from the day the individual goes on leave and ends the day after the individual returns to living in a care home.
In the above example, the individual would be paid 4/7ths of the weekly amount of Adult Disability Payment, for Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Adult Disability Payment rates 2022/23
ADP is awarded at the same rates as PIP and is made up of two parts:
- Daily living component
- Mobility component
Whether an individual receives one or both of these and how much depends on how severely their condition affects them.
Recipients could be paid the following amounts per week depending on their circumstances:
Daily living
- Standard rate: £61.85 (£68.10 from April)
- Enhanced rate: £92.40 (£101.75 from April)
Mobility
- Standard rate: £24.45 (£26.90 from April)
- Enhanced rate: £64.50 (£71.00 from April)
