The technology arm of the Egyptian Tax Authority (ETA), eTax, has launched a new electronic system to standardise the calculation of wage and salary tax, Zawya reports.
A press release stated that the system had been developed in full cooperation with the ETA.
The move reportedly forms part of a broader push from the Ministry of Finance for digital transformation across government services.
The introduction of the new system aims to eliminate inconsistencies and reduce reliance on manual estimations by utilising a unified, documented model for calculating payroll tax.
It has been designed to ease longstanding challenges for employees, HR departments, and tax officers, ensuring transparency, accuracy, and compliance across all participating entities.
A dedicated online portal for employees, accessible through the ETA’s website, accompanies the rollout.
Individuals can register and view detailed breakdowns of their monthly salary, including total income, withheld taxes, and insurance contributions, by using their national ID number.
Additionally, the platform enables users to print official, certified payslips for use in banking and governmental transactions.
The system reportedly allows employees to verify that tax and insurance deductions are compliant and are paid to the government on time. It offers a transparent and consistent record of entitlements, reducing the risk of calculation errors or manipulation.
To safeguard personal data, it operates on an advanced technological infrastructure that ensures high standards of data protection.
