A UK police force has confirmed that “human error" caused a data breach involving police officers' and staff payroll information, BBC News reports.
Norfolk Constabulary have apologised after a file was mistakenly sent to a former officer and subsequently deleted.
It reportedly said there was no "evidence that the information has been further shared or misused", adding that the breach has been reported to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
In a statement, the force said the ICO was satisfied with its response and had made changes to stop similar incidents from happening again.
"The incident was the result of human error, where a file was mistakenly sent to a former officer, and appropriate legal steps were taken," it said.
"The recipient has been very understanding and has worked cooperatively with us to ensure that there has been confirmed deletion of the data and no further sharing of the information, and we are grateful for their swift actions.
"We are sorry for the concern this may cause and are providing support to those affected."
